At a board meeting a few months ago, we learned that police in neighboring sub-divisions had started ticketing people riding golf carts on the streets. Apparently, Lake County does not have an ordinance that allows golf carts on sub-division roads, but there was an option to allow this in Sylvan Lake if we were to become a Golf Cart Community. The board reached out to Alicia Dodd, Fremont Township Highway Commissioner, and asked if this was a possibility and what requirements were needed. The board discussed the requirements and decided it was worthwhile to pursue, since we have several members that use golf carts in Sylvan Lake.
The ordinance requirements were submitted by Fremont Township and approved by Lake County, and the Golf Cart Community signs have been installed at both our entrances. Sylvan Lake South is excluded because golf carts are not allowed on state roads (Gilmer and Midlothian).
Our members are now allowed to use golf carts within our subdivision as long as they adhere to the approved ordinance.
